The author has certainly done his homework and has a well layout out book. It is a very interesting book. Appendix D that lists the scriptural references is nice to have. When studying the weekly lectionary (from Church) it is nice to be able to refer to this appendix. Referencing different sources (in this case - healing oils) helps a bible study group to further enhance the understanding of such passages we may be reading. I think it is important to realize that one needs to be cautious when using some of the plant extracts if they are on medication prescribed by their health care provider. Medications are somewhat plant based and if you mix herbs with medications you could be overdosing or preventing your prescribed meds from working effectively. Ere on the side of caution - check with your health care provider. I will be able to use some of the information in my horticultural therapy workshops with regards to the plants of the Bible and introduce some of the aromatherapy into that workshop as part of a relaxation/calming effects that the scents may have on a person.

Make sure the essential oils you purchase are organically grown. Be sure that the company knows how to properly distill each of the oils they sell, and that they do not use chemicals during the extraction process. A good essential oil company will also check each essential oil batch using gas chromatography to ensure that each batch has the proper phytochemical constituents. Don’t just rely on a label that says “pure.” These days, that just isn’t good enough.

Technically, essential oils aren't oils at all, as they lack fatty acids. Rather, they're highly concentrated plant components. Some plants contain phytochemicals that have effects on the body. There may be some effects when consumed in the small levels that typify culinary "spicing", and some herbs are toxic in larger quantities. For instance, some types of herbal extract, such as the extract of St. John's-wort (Hypericum perforatum) or of kava (Piper methysticum) can be used for medical purposes to relieve depression and stress.[13] However, large amounts of these herbs may lead to toxic overload that may involve complications, some of a serious nature, and should be used with caution. Complications can also arise when being taken with some prescription medicines.

And a 2014 study involving 82 participants evaluated the effectiveness of aromatherapy for elderly people with chronic pain and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Frances, many of the citrus oils and Rosemary 1,8 cineole can be used for focus. Rub a drop on your forehead and smell it. During the day you’ll be able to smell it sometimes too!
